We are looking for highly motivated and experienced business people who are keen to share their expertise with SMEs in Africa. Your knowledge can range from general business advice to guidance on more specific marketing or sales issues.

What does it involve?

Consultants are asked to volunteer for a twelve week programme, with a minimum time commitment of a one hour call per week plus preparation time. The programme is in two stages:

Stage 1: Understanding the business (three weeks)
Stage 2: Consulting programme (nine weeks)

Once a consultant is matched to a business, one hour sessions are planned per week. Communication takes place primarily over the telephone and occasionally over email. Consultants are required to fund the cost of the call although we estimate the cost at a maximum of $5 per week if you use an international calling card.

Benefits to the consultants:

Past consultants have found this a highly rewarding experience. It is a chance for business people to make a real difference to MSMEs and entrepreneurs in Africa.

Grow has been designed to be as flexible a volunteering programme as possible for our consultants. Past participants find this fits well with their employers CSR and volunteering programmes due to this flexibility, but also the clear objectives and measurable results.

Requirements:

To ensure our businesses receive only the highest quality of advice and commitment from consultants we require:

A commitment to supporting the UN millennium development goals (MDG's) 1 and 8 (end poverty and hunger and create global partnerships) http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/ and at least one of the following:

• A formal business qualification (E.G. Chartered Accountant, corporate lawyer or MBA), or;
• A manager or graduate trainee in a blue chip company, or;
• Five years relevant industry (SME) experience, or;
• A professional management consultant, or;
• A professional investor in emerging markets, or;
• A development professional with appropriate experience.

AND...the drive and enthusiasm to commit to the twelve session program.
